After the official conference opening on Thursday, May 28, there will be a reception in the auditorium, and on Saturday, May 30, all conference participants are invited to celebrate the North American Studies Program’s 25th birthday (view full program). The other two days will end with excursions for which you are asked to register in advance:

1. On the night of Friday, May 29, we will go on a two-and-a-half hour river cruise on the Rhine (7:00-9:30 pm). The fee is € 25.00 and includes the boat ride, finger food, and two drinks. Please see our registration page for more info on how to register for this fun and relaxed event.

2. After the official farewell on Sunday afternoon, May 31, an equally worthwhile trip will take us to Arp Museum Bahnhof Rolandseck (2:00-6:00 pm). This architectonically stunning place on the Rhine (see above) is mainly devoted to the work of German dadaists/surrealists Hans Arp and Sophie Taeuber-Arp – but it also hosts an exciting collection of contemporary art, as well as, at the time of our conference, an exhibition of French painters from Poussin to the impressionists. Depending on the size of the group, the trip will cost about € 15.00 to € 20.00 which covers the (11-minute) train ride from Bonn, the entrance fee, and a guided tour and is to be paid for during conference office hours. We will end the day with coffee and cake (or supper) at the museum’s own Bistro Interieur No. 253. If you want to take part in this event, please register via e-mail by May 4.
